Participants will be given guidance on minimum service standards and will work with their team to determine which model best suits each project.

In this session, participants will learn the best practice standards for providing property management services in a supportive housing community. Leading experts from across the nation will provide insight into the nuances of cross-sector coordination, eviction prevention, and unit upkeep.

This session focuses on designing your project to meet quality standards and incorporate Trauma Informed Design principles. National experts will guide participants through unique design examples and considerations to better inform population specific project concepts.  We will hear from national and local architect, learn about crafting a project design that meets your project goals, and integrate accessibility and sustainability into your project concept.

However, ensuring that affordable homes remain available requires communities to simultaneously prioritize the preservation of existing affordable housing – particularly units under threat from obsolescence, loss of affordability, or sale. How are communities prioritizing preservation and what more can be done in our region? Join HAND and National Housing Trust in a two-part preservation series to hear government officials and affordable housing industry champions discuss how preservation can be achieved through Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and how to leverage the Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) and other policies to advance preservation priorities.

Affordable housing developers and lenders from the DMV will share their perspectives on the opportunities for and challenges to preservation, including the region’s QAPs. HAND members and attendees are encouraged to join this lively facilitated discussion and share their own experiences to help inform HAND’s advocacy strategy to advance preservation initiatives in the DMV through the LIHTC program and other avenues.

National Housing Trust will share insights from their nationwide analysis of 53 QAPs, showcasing how and where states are prioritizing preservation. With an eye towards the DMV, attendees will have an opportunity to hear directly from housing industry professionals representing Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. – each of whom are currently updating their respective QAPs – on their preservation policies and provide feedback on ways to strengthen their approaches.
